Glory for Kozhikode at Kalanjali 2012 State Finals

Aimed at preserving the tradition and culture of the Tamil Brahmin community in Kerala, Kalanjali 2012, a two-day cultural fest organized by the Kerala Brahmana Sabha in state level was held on Sunday, 29th July 2012 (off stage) and stage events on Saturday, 4th August 2012 and Sunday, 5th August 2012. Veteran musician V. Dakshinamurthy and Smt. Kalyani Dakshinamurthy inaugurated the competitions centered at Sarada Kalyana Mandapam, Mattanchery, Ernakulam. Popular Cine Artists Sri. Delhi Ganesh and Sri. Dileep were present at the Prize Distribution ceremony.This event is part of a biennial function organized across the state. The event is meant to revive the long lost traditional art forms and customs of the community like Kolattam, Valayavanthapattu, Soundaryalahari, Bhajana, Narayaneeyam, Kolamidal, Pathinettu Muzham Pudava Udukkal, preparing authentic Brahmin snacks and wearing Panchagacham. Being a youth festival, there were other events like Essay writing, Story writing, Elocution, Recitation, Violin, Mrudangam, Classical Music etc. Kozhikode district participated in this years competition with a contingent strength of 78 members which included 62 participants. The team was led by Sri. Arun Kumar A S (District Yuvajana Vibhagam President) assisted by Sri. Rajesh P K (District Yuvajana Vibhagam Vice President) and Sri. Sooraj S ((District Yuvajana Vibhagam Secretary), The team for Vanitholsavam comprising of 20 lady participants was led by Smt. Usha Gopalakrishnan (State Executive Member, Vanitha Vibhagam) assisted by Smt. Seethalakshmi C S and Smt. Geetha Venkitadri.  The journey from Calicut was flagged off at Kozhikode Railway station on Friday evening and the same team returned back with Everlasting Glory, Pride and Content on Monday morning. "Its a Meritorious achievement and all credits go to the participants" - says Sri. T V Krishna Iyer (District President, KBS) on hearing on the success. 
To add to the glory Kozhikode district achieved the feat of winning the 3rd Position with 364 points after Trivandrum and Ernakulam; another rare feat obtained was that Kozhikode district also registered either one KALATHILAKAM or a KALAPRATHIBHA in the Sub Junior, Junior and Senior category with Kum. Pooja Narayanan (Kalathilakam - Sub Junior), Kum. Ranjani Parameswaran (Kalathilakam - Junior) and Sri. Kiran C G (Kalaprathibha - Senior) winning in their respective categories. Over and above, the members registered their participation in the Vanitholsavam category and won the first place in Narayaneeyam (Senior), Soundaryalahari (Senior) and the third place in Kolattom (Junior). Highlighted victories were also registered in events like Classical Music, Tamil and Malayalam Recitations, English and Tamil Elocutions, Panchagacchadharanam etc with remarkable victories in Violin, Bharatanatyam, Malayalam Elocution and other events.The fact that every participant contributed towards the point tally for the district boasts of this success. The winners and participants will be felicitated at a special function to be held later this month in the district. The credit of the success is dedicated to all participants and their families.
